Annual environmental training is a refresher education program that reinforces employees’ knowledge of environmental regulations, workplace environmental impacts, pollution prevention, waste management, and emergency response procedures. eTraining’s course provides approximately 1–2 hours of instruction covering key EPA and state environmental requirements, best-practice procedures, and the roles employees play in organizational sustainability. Upon completion, participants receive a printable certificate of completion.
You must score at least 70% on the final exam to pass and receive your certificate of completion. The course includes knowledge-check sections to help prepare you for the final exam. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you can retake the exam.
The course covers: key environmental regulations and compliance requirements; everyday environmental impacts in the workplace; pollution prevention and waste minimization practices; proper waste management and disposal procedures; emergency response for environmental incidents (spills, releases); employee roles and responsibilities in environmental compliance; sustainability practices and environmental stewardship; and recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
The course takes approximately 1–2 hours to complete. Because it is self-paced, you can complete it in one sitting or over multiple sessions at your convenience. Most students finish in a single session. You have 6 months from your enrollment date to complete all coursework. Progress is saved automatically on the same device, so you can stop and resume at any time.

Additionally, many employers require annual environmental training as part of their internal environmental management systems (EMS) and ISO 14001 compliance programs.

No. eTraining’s Annual Environmental Training course is 100% online with no in-person component required. However, employers may have additional site-specific environmental training requirements, such as spill response drills or facility-specific procedures, that must be completed separately.
Annual environmental training is a general refresher covering broad environmental regulations, pollution prevention, waste management, and sustainability practices for all employees at regulated facilities. HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) training under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 is specifically required for workers involved in hazardous waste site cleanup, emergency response to hazardous substance releases, and TSDF operations. Workers who are covered by HAZWOPER may need both HAZWOPER refresher training and annual environmental training.
Yes. The Annual Environmental Training course works on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Your progress is saved automatically on the same device you are using, allowing you to pause and pick up where you left off. Note: you must continue on the same device to retain your saved progress.
Annual environmental training is intended to be renewed every 12 months. Many federal and state environmental regulations and facility permits require that employees complete environmental training annually. Employers should ensure that all covered employees complete refresher training within 12 months of their last training date to maintain compliance.
