Annual Environmental Training or a Single Subject Course?
This course is the yearly sweep across several environmental programmes. The others go deep on one of them, and most permitted sites end up buying both kinds.

Which Rule Requires Annual Environmental Training?
No single federal rule orders every worker to sit an environmental course each year. The duty comes from the programmes a site is already in, and two of them say annual in plain words.
- Hazardous waste generators. A large quantity generator must train the personnel who handle hazardous waste, and 40 CFR 262.17(a)(7) states that facility personnel must take part in an annual review of that initial training.
- Facilities that store oil. A facility with an SPCC plan must schedule and conduct discharge prevention briefings for its oil handling personnel at least once a year under 40 CFR 112.7(f)(3).
- Permit conditions. Air, water and waste permits carry their own training conditions, which vary by permit and by state programme, so the permit itself is the place to check.
- Everyone else. Where none of those reach a worker, the training is a company requirement rather than a legal one, and the course is written to be useful on that basis too.
40 CFR 262.17(a)(7) accepts online training by name, so an annual review does not have to mean a room and a projector.
