Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Body Protection Safety.

Body protection safety training is a safety education program that teaches workers how to properly select, use, inspect, and maintain protective clothing and equipment designed to shield or isolate the body from chemical, physical, and biological hazards. eTraining’s course provides approximately 75 minutes of instruction covering OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132 and 29 CFR 1910.120 standards, including protective material types, EPA levels of protection, chemical protective clothing (CPC) selection and performance requirements, donning and doffing procedures, decontamination, and management programs. Upon completion, participants receive a printable certificate of completion.
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132 requires employers to provide PPE training to all employees who are required to use personal protective equipment, including body protection. Workers who handle hazardous chemicals, work in environments with biological hazards, or face exposure to extreme temperatures, splashes, or impacts must be trained on proper selection, use, and maintenance of protective clothing. Employers are responsible for conducting a hazard assessment and determining which employees need body protection training.
The course takes approximately 75 minutes to complete. Because it is self-paced, you can complete it in one sitting or over multiple sessions at your convenience. Most students finish in a single session. You have 6 months from your enrollment date to complete all coursework. Progress is saved automatically on the same device, so you can stop and resume at any time.
The EPA defines four levels of chemical protection: Level A provides the highest level of respiratory, skin, and eye protection using a fully encapsulating suit with a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Level B provides the highest respiratory protection but less skin protection, using a non-encapsulating suit with SCBA. Level C uses air-purifying respirators with chemical-resistant clothing. Level D is the minimum protection level, consisting of standard work clothes with no respiratory protection. This course covers all four levels in detail.
The course covers: protective material types and characteristics (elastomers, non-elastomers, barriers); EPA levels of protection (A, B, C, D); types of chemical protective clothing and their applications; CPC performance requirements and standards; the CPC selection process; written management programs for body protection; donning, doffing, and proper use procedures; decontamination methods; and inspection, storage, and maintenance of protective clothing. The course is divided into 4 parts with quizzes at the end of each section.
You must score at least 70% on the final exam to pass and receive your certificate of completion. The course includes knowledge-check quizzes at the end of each part to help prepare you for the final exam. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you can retake the exam.
Yes. eTraining’s Body Protection Safety course covers OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132 and 29 CFR 1910.120 standards for body protection and chemical protective clothing, and is accepted nationwide. General PPE training (based on OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132) covers all types of personal protective equipment including eye, head, foot, hand, hearing, and respiratory protection. Body protection training focuses specifically on protective clothing and equipment designed to shield the body from chemical, physical, and biological hazards, including chemical protective suits, EPA levels of protection, and decontamination procedures. Workers who need comprehensive PPE training may benefit from both courses.
There is no federally mandated expiration date for body protection safety training certificates. However, OSHA requires retraining when the types of PPE available change, when workplace hazards change, or when workers demonstrate inadequate knowledge of PPE use. Refresher training is recommended to maintain current knowledge of body protection standards and procedures.
