Crane Safety for the Competent Person

What Is eTraining's Crane Safety for the Competent Person Course?

eTraining’s Crane Safety for the Competent Person course is an online training program designed for workers who need in-depth understanding of crane job sites and the safety requirements and responsibilities of different worker roles including the signal person, rigger, operator, and competent person. The course covers OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1400, the standard for Cranes and Derricks in construction, and is taken entirely online.

OSHA deems a competent person to be a necessity on every job site. A competent person is someone who has sufficient experience and knowledge to recognize crane hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and has the ability to shut down the worksite until any hazards are corrected. The competent person should be the most knowledgeable person about crane safety on the work site.

This course goes beyond the basic awareness level of introductory courses and into details necessary when learning not just how to protect yourself, but what it takes to create a safe working environment for those you may be responsible for. eTraining fully endorses the national certification program offered by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and will prepare candidates for the CCO certification examinations.

The course is 100% online, fully self-paced, and accessible on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Workers who need this training include designated competent persons for crane operations, construction supervisors and foremen overseeing crane work, safety officers responsible for crane safety programs, project managers involved in lift planning, and workers preparing for NCCCO certification. The competent person must have sufficient experience and knowledge to recognize crane hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and has the authority to shut down operations until hazards are corrected.
