What is the Backing Basics and "Alley Dock" Backing and Parking for CMV Drivers Course?
The Backing Basics and “Alley Dock” Backing and Parking for CMV Drivers course is an online training program designed for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. The course discusses the basics of backing and parking and how to safely perform an “alley dock” maneuver in a commercial motor vehicle, as well as common hazards to look for while backing and parking a CMV and how to avoid them.
Backing up in a straight line is usually the easiest method when backing a CMV. However, there are situations where you do not have enough room to approach the space you want to get into straight on. In these cases, you should use alley docking. Alley docking can be tricky, especially when driving a tractor trailer where you have to angle both the cab and the trailer. Areas covered in the course include the basics of backing, alley dock backing and parking, setting up, alley dock parking, and the process.
The course is 100% online, fully self-paced, approximately 45–60 minutes in length, and accessible on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
This course is provided in partnership with MARCOM, a top-rated safety and compliance training content provider.
