This interactive course on Backing Basics and “Alley Dock” Backing and Parking… for CMV Drivers discusses the basics of backing and parking and how to safely perform an “alley dock” maneuver in a Commercial Motor Vehicle as well as common hazards to look for while backing and parking a CMV and how to avoid them. Backing up in a straight line is usually the easiest method when backing up a Commercial Motor Vehicle. However, there are situations where you just don’t have enough room to approach the space you want to get into “straight on”. In these cases, you should use “alley docking”. But “alley docking” can be tricky, especially when you’re driving a tractor trailer where you have to “angle” both the cab and the trailer. So perfecting this maneuver takes time, practice, and patience. Areas covered in the course include the basics of backing, alley dock backing and parking… setting up, alley dock parking… the process, and more.
