What does the 24 Hour HAZWOPER Training Cover

Six units, built in the order a hazardous waste job runs: the law that creates the waste, the rules that govern the site, the hazards on it, and the data behind the chemicals.

  • It starts with where hazardous waste comes from. The first unit walks the environmental statutes and the EPA rules that decide whether a material is a hazardous waste at all, including underground storage tanks end to end.
  • It covers moving the waste, not just handling it. Placarding, labeling, packaging codes, shipping papers and the Emergency Response Guidebook fill a 79-slide unit, which is where most hazardous waste jobs create paperwork.
  • Site hazards get two units, not one. Falls, excavations, ladders, scaffolds, fire, electrical work, personal protective equipment and respiratory protection, each taught to the point a worker can recognize the hazard.
  • It ends with the NIOSH Pocket Guide, entry by entry. The last unit teaches how to read a Pocket Guide entry for any of 677 chemicals: exposure limits, flammability, personal protection codes and respirator selection.
