What Is Dealing with the Media in Emergency Situations Course?
The Dealing with the Media in Emergency Situations course is an interactive online training program designed to help facilities comply with OSHA’s HAZWOPER regulation (29 CFR 1910.120).
The course instructs employees on the proper ways of interacting with the media during an emergency situation involving hazardous materials. It covers the role and responsibilities of the Public Information Officer (PIO), how to protect a company’s reputation during incidents, how rumors get started, and the importance of providing accurate, up-to-date information.
Topics include the PIO’s role in working with the media, how employees can unwittingly spread misinformation, the importance of accurate information during incidents, the role employees should play when speaking to media, and topics or statements employees should never make regarding HAZMAT incidents.
The course uses a combination of audio, full-motion video, text, and colorful graphics. It is provided in partnership with MARCOM, a top-rated safety and compliance training content provider.
