eTraining’s comprehensive Scaffolding Training for the Competent Person Course is a 5 hour course that covers all of the important training that a competent person in this potentially dangerous area of work needs to have.
In 2010 alone, OSHA reported 7,069 scaffolding violations in job sites across America with 37 workers dying in scaffold related incidents. This makes Scaffolding the second-most cited violation behind Fall Protection, and shows the need for proper safety training in this area of work.
An OSHA competent person is a necessity on every job site and is some one who has sufficient experience and/or knowledge to recognize scaffold hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and who has the ability to shut down the worksite until any hazards are corrected. The competent person should be the most knowledgeable person, in this case about scaffold safety, on site.
eTraining’s Scaffolding for the Competent Person course ensures that a student will receive all of the proper training pursuant to OSHAs requirement of Competent Persons for this standard 29 CFR 1926.451. This course will go beyond the basic awareness level of introductory courses and into details necessary when learning not just how to protect yourself, but what it takes to create a safe working environment for those you may be responsible for. The course also ensures compliance with OSHA regulations through comprehensive training modules and interactive activities. If your needs to not require a full, competent person level course, we also offer a Scaffolding Awareness Course.
Course Components
We have developed an extensive course that, in addition to the topics listed below, include OSHAs five most serious scaffold hazards: falling objects, falls, unsafe access, scaffold collapse, and electrocutions. The course emphasizes the importance of using a person fall arrest system as part of the safety protocols covered. The course is made up of 6 main units covering a variety of topics and is self-paced, fully narrated, and contains interactive exercises, video, and knowledge check quizzes along the way. A competent person must be able to identify hazardous conditions and take prompt corrective measures to ensure a safe working environment for employees.
Instructor Access
In addition to this, the student will also have access to a course instructor via email. Any question a student has about the material covered throughout the course can be emailed directly to questions@etraintoday.com and an instructor response is guaranteed within 24 hours. Instructors can also help clarify safety rules related to scaffolding and OSHA regulations.
Downloadable Material
As part of the training, the student will also have access to a downloadable, written Scaffolding Safety Program that provides for a uniform, consistent application of policies and procedures for a company, a site-specific Scaffolding Plan for individual job-sites, and a Competent Person Inspection Checklist as well. You’ll also be able to download a certificate of completion after finishing the training.
