What Is eTraining's Fall Protection for the Competent Person Course?
eTraining’s Fall Protection for the Competent Person course is an online training program designed for supervisors and workers with safety responsibilities on job sites where fall hazards exist. The course covers OSHA 29 CFR 1926.500, the standard for fall protection in construction, and provides comprehensive training on fall protection systems, hazard recognition, rescue procedures, and competent person responsibilities.
The U.S. Department of Labor lists falls as one of the leading causes of traumatic occupational death in the workplace today. Any time an employee is working at a height of 6 feet or more, that worker needs to be aware of proper fall protection practices and use proper fall protection equipment. To help ensure that workers adhere to proper safety precautions, OSHA has mandated that a competent person be present at every job site.
A competent person is defined by OSHA as a designated person with sufficient experience and knowledge to recognize fall hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and who has the ability to shut down the worksite until any hazards are corrected. The competent person should be the most knowledgeable person about fall protection on site. This course goes beyond the basic awareness level of introductory courses and into details necessary when learning not just how to protect yourself, but what it takes to create a safe working environment for those you may be responsible for.
