The Using Fire Extinguishers in Construction Environments course is an online safety training program that teaches construction workers how to identify different types of fires, select the correct fire extinguisher, and use it effectively and safely. The course covers how fires burn, fire classes, types of extinguishers (dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water, and foam), the PASS method for operating extinguishers, and fire extinguisher maintenance.
This course is designed for construction workers who may need to respond to a fire on the job site. It is appropriate for all workers, including general laborers, supervisors, fire watch personnel, and anyone designated to use fire extinguishing equipment.
The course takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes to complete. It is fully self-paced, so you can pause and resume at your convenience. You have 6 months from enrollment to finish. Progress saves automatically on the same device.
The course covers how fires burn, the fire triangle (heat, fuel, oxygen), classes of fire (A, B, C, D), fire extinguisher labels and ratings, dry chemical and carbon dioxide extinguishers, water and foam extinguishers, the PASS method for using a fire extinguisher, and maintaining fire extinguishers on the job site.
The PASS method is the standard technique for using a portable fire extinguisher. PASS stands for Pull the pin, Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep from side to side. This course teaches workers how to apply the PASS method correctly during a fire emergency.
