Which H2S Course Do You Need?

How Long Does H2S Training Stay Current?
No federal rule puts an expiry date on H2S training. OSHA's Hazard Communication standard at 29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1) ties the training to the job rather than to the calendar, so what sets your refresher schedule is usually your employer and the sites you work on.
- The standard triggers on assignment, not on a date. 29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1) requires training at the time of initial assignment, and again whenever a new chemical hazard is introduced into the work area. There is no annual clause anywhere in it.
- Your employer and the site operator set the interval. Plenty of operators and plant contracts ask for a refresher every twelve months. That is a contract requirement rather than a federal one, so check what your sites ask for before you buy.
- The certificate carries the date you passed. Your Certificate of Completion is personalized and dated, so a gate guard or an auditor can see when the training happened without you having to explain it.
If your sites ask for a refresher every twelve months, put the renewal on the same calendar as your gas detector calibrations. It stops being a scramble.
