OSHA 10-Hour General Industry is an OSHA-authorized Outreach Training program that provides 10 hours of instruction on workplace safety and health hazards for workers in general industry. It covers OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards including workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, PPE, electrical safety, machine guarding, hazard communication, fire safety, and ergonomics. Upon completion, workers receive an official DOL/OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Card.
OSHA 10-Hour General Industry is designed for entry-level workers in non-construction industries including manufacturing, warehousing, retail, healthcare, food processing, and utilities. If you do NOT work in construction, agriculture, or maritime, this is the correct OSHA 10-Hour course for you. Construction workers should take the OSHA 10-Hour Construction course instead.
OSHA 10-Hour General Industry covers 29 CFR 1910 standards for non-construction workplaces (manufacturing, warehousing, healthcare, etc.) and addresses hazards like machine guarding, hazardous chemicals, and electrical safety. OSHA 10-Hour Construction covers 29 CFR 1926 standards and focuses on construction-specific hazards like falls, scaffolding, excavation, and struck-by hazards. Choose the course that matches your workplace.
The course requires a minimum of 10.25 hours of instruction. It is self-paced, so you can complete it over multiple sessions. Most students finish within 1–2 weeks. You have 6 months from enrollment to complete all coursework. Your progress is saved on the device you’re using, allowing you to pick up where you left off on that device.
At the federal level, DOL/OSHA 10-Hour cards do not technically expire. However, many employers require renewal every 3–5 years. eTraining recommends refreshing training every 3–5 years to stay current with updated OSHA standards and workplace safety practices.
After completing the course and passing all module quizzes, your official DOL/OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Card is mailed within 6 to 8 weeks. You can print your certificate of completion immediately upon passing to provide proof of training to your employer while waiting for the physical card.
