OSHA 10-Hour Construction training is a voluntary safety education program offered through OSHA’s Outreach Training Program. It provides 10 hours of instruction on workplace safety hazards, workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a safety complaint. The course covers OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards for the construction industry. Upon completion, participants receive an official DOL/OSHA 10-Hour Card.
While the OSHA Outreach Training Program is voluntary at the federal level, several states mandate OSHA 10-Hour training for construction workers. New York, Connecticut, Nevada, Rhode Island, Missouri, and New Hampshire have state-level requirements. Additionally, many employers, unions, and government contracts require workers to hold an active OSHA 10-Hour card as a condition of employment.
The course requires a minimum of 10.25 hours of instruction time. Because it is self-paced, you can complete it over multiple sessions at your convenience. Most students finish within 1–2 weeks. You have 6 months from your enrollment date to complete all coursework. Progress is saved automatically, so you can stop and resume on any device.
OSHA 10-Hour training is designed for entry-level construction workers and covers basic hazard recognition and safety awareness. OSHA 30-Hour training is designed for supervisors, foremen, and workers with safety responsibilities, providing more in-depth coverage of OSHA standards, hazard identification, and safety management.
At the federal level, OSHA 10-Hour DOL cards do not technically expire. However, many employers, unions, and state regulations require OSHA 10 training to be renewed every 3–5 years to ensure workers have current safety knowledge. Check your employer’s policy and local requirements for specific renewal timelines.
After completing the course and passing the final exam, your DOL/OSHA 10-Hour Card is typically mailed within 6–8 weeks. You can print your certificate of completion immediately upon passing to provide proof of training to your employer while you wait for your physical card.
You must score at least 70% on each module quiz to advance through the course. You have three attempts to pass each quiz. If you fail a quiz three times, you may be locked out and need to re-enroll. Immediate feedback is provided after incorrect responses to help you learn.

Yes. The OSHA 10-Hour Construction course works on mobile, tablet, and desktop devices. Your progress is saved on the device you’re using, allowing you to pick up where you left off on that device.
The course covers: Introduction to OSHA and workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, Focus Four hazards (falls, electrocution, caught-in/between, struck-by), personal protective equipment (PPE), health hazards in construction, materials handling safety, hand and power tool safety, scaffolding, excavation, and safety culture. The course is divided into modules with quizzes after each section.
The OSHA 10-Hour Construction course satisfies the federal OSHA Outreach training requirement and is accepted in all 50 states. However, New York City has additional Site Safety Training (SST) requirements under Local Law 196. Workers in NYC should verify whether additional NYC SST courses are needed alongside the OSHA 10-Hour card.
Yes. eTraining offers a complete OSHA 10-Hour Construction course in Spanish (OSHA 10 Horas Construcción). The Spanish course covers the same content, meets the same OSHA Outreach requirements, and results in the same official DOL/OSHA 10-Hour Card.
