This online OSHA HAZWOPER training is broken up into 10 parts. There will be knowledge check quizzes throughout our courses to help keep you on pace which will help you prepare for the final. After completion of the final exam with a score of 70% or better, you will be able to print a personalized HAZWOPER certificate of completion with your name, the course you passed, the date taken and certificate number. The OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER TimeLocked course is a paced version of eTraining’s standard 40-Hour HAZWOPER training. The TimeLocked format requires students to spend a minimum amount of time on each section before advancing, ensuring that learners engage with the full 40 hours of training content as required by OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.120. The course covers 10 modules on hazardous waste operations and emergency response.
Both courses cover the same content and meet the same OSHA requirements under 29 CFR 1910.120. The difference is in the delivery format. The TimeLocked version enforces a minimum time requirement for each section, preventing students from advancing until they have spent the required time on that section. This format is often preferred by employers who need documentation that the full 40-hour time requirement was completed.
OSHA requires 40-Hour HAZWOPER training for general site workers at uncontrolled hazardous waste operations, workers at RCRA corrective action sites, employees at treatment/storage/disposal (TSD) facilities, emergency response personnel, and supervisors managing hazardous waste operations. Workers with limited exposure may qualify for the 24-Hour HAZWOPER course instead.
The course requires a minimum of 40 hours of instruction time across 10 modules. Because the TimeLocked format enforces minimum time per section, you cannot complete the course faster than the required 40 hours. Progress saves automatically so you can pause and resume on the same device.
Your purchase includes the complete 40-Hour HAZWOPER TimeLocked training, a downloadable 400-page HAZWOPER manual, free annual refresher training for the following year, instructor access, a printable certificate of completion, a laminated ID card, 6.68 ABIH Industrial Hygiene Maintenance Points, and 4 BCSP Continuance of Certification points.
Yes. In addition to the 40 hours of online instruction, OSHA requires employers to provide 3 days (24 hours) of supervised, worksite-specific field experience under an experienced supervisor, per 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(i). This field training covers site-specific hazards, PPE requirements, and emergency procedures at your workplace.
Yes. HAZWOPER certification is valid for 12 months from the date of completion. OSHA requires all HAZWOPER-trained workers to complete an 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher course annually to maintain their certification. eTraining includes free annual refresher training for the following year with your 40-Hour course purchase.

Yes. Online HAZWOPER training is a valid option recognized by OSHA for meeting the instructional training requirements under 29 CFR 1910.120. However, OSHA also requires 3 days of supervised, hands-on field experience provided by the employer following online training completion.
40-Hour HAZWOPER is for general site workers with the highest potential exposure to hazardous substances. 24-Hour HAZWOPER is for workers with limited exposure who are not involved in direct cleanup operations. The 40-Hour course requires 3 days of supervised field experience; the 24-Hour course requires 1 day (8 hours). Both are governed by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120.
